about

Here's a soaring flag to misanthropic teens and the dark corners of their lonely internal worlds. If teenage indignation and the nations' untold scores of private, operatic, emotional meltdowns were crammed into a long, pop-experiment, this would be it. It's adolescent tragedy meets musical theatre.

Finished audio recording made possible by the financial contribution of SK Arts' Independent Artist Program grant

lyrics

I am accident prone
My high school year book reads sophomore unknown
My mother thinks I’m crazy
She thinks there are bats off the stage
She thinks I’m not acting my age
I space out and she starts to cry
I’d rather not open my eyes
In the blue television light
Is where I spend most of the night

Days like these I wish I was invisible
So I could leave this hopeless scene
And slip into a world that’s a little less physical
Cause the girls I meet can see my life is miserable
They smile at me but I can see
They’d rather meet a gaze that’s a little less clinical

My social grace is cold and abrasive
My indignation second to none
This isolation’s painful to take
And I’ve never won a race but I’m ready to run
Away x7

(Guitar Solo)

In psychology we study people like me (people like me/like me)
People with a little too much going on in their heads (busy head x2 til you’re dead x2/think happy thoughts x2)
It’s my own disease and they say living is a breeze

When you’re sweet 16 and the girls are mean and you’re butchered by the bullies on the football team
Cause your socks don’t match and you’re gawky and lean
What do you want from me?
And the teacher can’t see that you’re too nervous to read
Cause your mother sewed a seed of uncertainty
When she put you in the world while now it’s time to leave
Is the Lord gonna come and save me?

My teens were wasted dazed and complacent
Stuck in the basement frozen in time
For all those days when you couldn’t stand my face
I’m your soldier of disgrace and I’m ready to die

This 9 millimetre offers
Spirits from my locker running down the drain
(Because I’m)
Awkward plain as Betty Crocker
Speak a little softer you might hear it rain
Rain you don’t know the troubles I’ve been through
There’s nothing I can do to make it last
Do they really have to ask
Are you having the time of your life?

Are you having the time x2
Senior year is coming fast and I really have to ask
Are you having the time of your life?
Of your life
